Goblin Market

Christina Rossetti

George G. Harrap and Co., London, 1939. Illustrated by Arthur Backham. Slim paperback, 8vo, 37 pp. Wraps are fairly worn on top and bottom, and only a few fox speckles here and there on wraps and marginally on text block. Gift dedication on blueish ink at verso of end paper reads: "To Geoff, with love from Wink. Christmas 1944". A gorgeous, special edition of Rosetti's poem, thought to be both a children's story and a charged, sensual piece. A reissue of the 1933 Harrap edition with a coloured frontis and black and white illustrations in text block by Golden Age illustrator Arthur Backham. Fairly scarce.
